WOW! someone sent this picture into the local news station, flames were 20ft and higher.
So if you live in UT you know that this year has been CRAZY for fires! I have never seen it soo bad, ( there have been 10 fires in the last 2 weeks). We have had a few friends that have had to evacuate from there homes, luckily everyone has been ok and none of them lost there homes. Today it looks like its our turn! We have not been asked to evacuate as of now (3.45pm) but we are on evacuation stand by. I had all of the kids pack a bag of clothes and make sure they have there blankets ready:) I packed a bag for Kaj and I, made sure to get all of our important documents, pictures, and prized possessions and Kaj called and got renters/and fire insurance. *nothing like procrastination*... It is definitely scary and eye opening to have a natural disaster right in your "back yard".
The fire has already burned 1200-1500 acres (as of 7pm) the none of it has been contained but firefighters are making progress. Black Hawk helicopters from the Utah National Guard, two heavy air tankers, one small air tanker, four helicopters and several engines from the forest service and surrounding communities are assisting in the fight. As of the 7pm report only 1 structure had caught fire, a barn. No homes have burned down and the fire seems to be moving away from the "city".
My heart is aching for other families who have lost there homes or who have been effected by these fires. Things like this always make you realise just how UN important possessions are, when lives are in danger nothing is more important than every one's safety. We have such a wonderful community and it is soo nice to have everyone come together to help others who have been effected.
Another one of our friends (who was evacuated) took the time to take over a few supplies: Gatorade, granola bars, and some other snacks, to the firefighters during the time they were really struggling. What a great way to show your children how to serve others!! SOO when I noticed that the relief society had been asked to bring some breakfast casseroles down to the firefighters tomorrow morning. I JUMPED on the opportunity to help out. Right now (11:42pm) Kaj is at the store getting the ingredients and then we will stay up making the casserole so that in the morning we can just warm it up and it will be ready. I am excited that the kids are able to help out and really learn from this experience.
Here are a few pictures of the fire and then some of the "hot spots" taken at night.. devastating photo's!
This is a picture from the field across the street from our house
